LU meritorious student council fails to hold a single meeting this session | Lucknow News

Lucknow: The academic session of the Lucknow University (LU) is nearing its end, but the meritorious student council (MSC), which is responsible for raising welfare issues related to students with the administration, has not yet held its first meeting.“The formation of the MSC was late. In fact, its constitution happened in Dec, seven months after the start of the session. The body had been lying inactive since,” said a group of students, raising questions over the effectiveness and purpose of having an MSC. The option of MSC was introduced by the university after the students union could not be formed due to legal issues. While the body could not hold a single meeting, students across campus insist that several basic problems related to them remain unaddressed during the session. “There is no proper water supply in Tagore Library. The washrooms are unhygienic and issues with sanitary pad availability for female students persist,” said Riya Singh, a BA second-year student. Shivam Verma, a BSc third-year student, mentioned that the cyber library often lacks an internet connection, making it difficult for students to study or complete assignments. At the second campus, Btech first year, Aman Yadav said, “Many benches are broken and students are forced to adjust during classes. We do not know their names or how to contact them.” A member of the meritorious student council, speaking anonymously, said that the council has not held any meetings so far, except for a certificate ceremony for the previous council, and no discussion has taken place regarding student issues. Newly appointed dean students’ welfare, Amita Kanaujia, said, “Soon, we will work on making the meritorious student council more effective and student oriented.”
