Rajnath to inaugurate phase 2of Green Corridor on Friday

Lucknow: Commuting between the western end and eastern side of the city will get smoother within a week as the second portion of the Green Corridor project is set to be inaugurated on March 13.Lucknow MP and defence minister Rajnath Singh, along with chief minister Yogi Adityanath, will open the new carriageway.Spanning over almost 5.1km, the stretch that will be inaugurated spans from Bhikhampur to Daliganj.Once open for vehicular movement, motorists will have an easier ride between Samta Mulak crossing in Gomtinagar and Jehta locality in Kakori. The four-lane road will bring down the travel time between the two ends by at least 15-20 minutes. However, commuters may have to face some bottlenecks as vehicles plying via the carriageway of Green Corridor will merge with the existing traffic and create conflicts at Nishatganj and Bikhampur until traffic-calming solutions are put in place. Upon completion, the overall Green Corridor project will facilitate seamless traffic movement between Jehta, a village situated near the IIM Road, and Faizabad Road on the other end at Chinhat. Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) vice-chairman Prathmesh Kumar said the second portion would ease existing traffic congestion in Daliganj, Hazratganj and Nishatganj.“Our team has already started work on the next phase with setting up of an embankment along the Gomti between Shaheed Path and Pipara Ghat,” he said.A senior officer at the LDA said that the entire project would span over 28.3km and connect IIM Road to Kisan Path along the Gomti. “Through Kisan Path, one will be able to reach Faizabad Road by covering an additional distance of about 7km,” he said.
