UP horror: Married man stabs woman over marriage refusal, attempts suicide | Lucknow News
LUCKNOW: A married man allegedly attacked a woman (30) with a knife after she refused to marry him and later attempted suicide by stabbing himself and consuming pesticide in Madhavapur village under Murtihā police station in Bahraich district on Saturday night.According to police, the accused, Jairam (38), reached the woman’s house and pressured her to marry him. When she refused, he allegedly attacked her with a knife, causing serious injuries. Immediately after the assault, Jairam also stabbed himself in the abdomen and drank a poisonous pesticide he had brought with him. Hearing the screams, family members and neighbours rushed to the spot and took both of them to Bahraich Medical College, where they are undergoing treatment. Police said the incident is linked to a relationship that developed nearly two years ago between Jairam and the married woman, whose husband works as a labourer in Mumbai. Jairam, who is also married, reportedly used to frequently visit the woman’s house. However, in recent days, the woman had stopped speaking to him. In her statement to police at the hospital, the injured woman alleged that Jairam forcibly broke open the door of her house and attacked her when she refused to marry him. Circle officer of Mihinpurwa, Pradyumna Singh, said that a case is being registered based on the woman’s statement and further investigation is underway.
