Lucknow: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said that pressure from the BJP govt to delete names of genuine voters and add fake names was leading the Booth Level officers (BLOs) associated with special intensive revision (SIR) 2026 to commit suicide. He said such deaths were BJP govt’s Paap ka Mahapaap (greatest sin of all sins) and the party will have to pay for it. Akhilesh’s statement came a day the news came in that the body a BLO Akhilesh Savita (50) was found hanging inside a govt primary school at Aliyabad village on Saturday evening. Police said a suicide note recovered from the spot indicated that he was under severe stress due to ongoing SIR duties. There were reports that the BLO was also denied leave for his daughter’s wedding.“The BLOs are working under extreme stress 24 by seven for months now. They were first being pressurised to delete names of genuine voters from the electoral rolls using Form 7. Thereafter they are being pressurised to add fake names to the voter list through From 6. Such pressures are leading the BLOs to take the extreme step and end their life,” Akhilesh said in a statement issued on Monday.Referring to the suicide by BLO in Fatehpur, Akhilesh said the suicide note, that the 50-year-old Akhilesh Kumar Savita has left behind, was titled ‘Jeevanmukti’, clearly explaining the level of mounting pressure that the BLOs were being subjected to. “Senior officials had also denied him leave for his daughter’s wedding that was to be held 10 days later which too had added to the mental stress of the BLO,” Akhilesh said.Akhilesh appealed to the BLOs not to lose hope and to carry out their responsibilities diligently. “There are innumerable instances in history of how govts, which had turned villains for their own people, have collapsed. Negative energies like the BJP too have an end. Height of despotism also marks the start of disintegration of such negativity,” Akhilesh said.The former UP CM also pointed fingers at the senior officials supervising the BLOs for being insensitive towards the needs of their subordinates. “The extreme insensitivity of the BJP has been passed on to the officials in govt. The extent and burden of responsibilities associates with a daughter’s wedding can only be understood by people who have families, he added.
