UP govt to assess skill training providers on performance, targets

Lucknow: All skill training providers (TPs), govt and private, across the state will undergo performance assessment based on the targets they met and the number of trainees placed over the last three years. There are 1,712 skill training providers in UP.Only training providers empanelled with the Uttar Pradesh Skill Development Mission (UPSDM) and neither debarred nor blacklisted will undergo the assessment and grading process scheduled in March. Based on the grading, the TPs will be allocated targets for the next financial year, 2026-27.Director, UPSDM, Pulkit Khare said that training providers will be placed under four categories — A, B, C, and D — on a 40-point evaluation scale. Those scoring 36-40 marks will be put under A grade, those with 30-36 in B grade, those with 25-30 in C grade and those scoring below 25 marks will be awarded D grade.Vocational education, skill development and entrepreneurship minister Kapil Dev Agarwal said, “The evaluation and grading of private training providers is aimed at enhancing the quality of skill training, bringing transparency, and strengthening employability.”Officials said the grading system will focus on enrolment, timely completion of training, and outcome-based performance. Of the 1,712 training providers, 493 are private and 334 govt. There are 23 industrial training partners and 34 for persons with disabilities. Others include start-ups and those run under the Centre’s skill training scheme.Under the new system, better-performing institutions will receive more opportunities, while weaker ones will be asked to improve their quality of training.
