Play depicts sacrifice of newlywed for nation | Lucknow News
Lucknow: A play, ‘Purja Purja Kat Mare’ by Manjushree Natya Manch was staged at UP Sangeet Natak Akademi (UPSNA) on Friday. The skit showed the sacrifice of a newly married woman whose husband leaves for a battlefield on the first night.The play starts with a king, Rana, who, on his first night, had to leave for the battlefield to defend his country. During the battle, one night, he thinks about his wife and dispatches a message asking her to send him a ‘symbol of love’. The queen feels that her husband is losing focus, and hence asks the maid to behead her and send the head to the husband to inspire him to fight with full strength.
The play is directed by theatre artist Shailesh Srivastava, and the story is inspired from poems written by noted poets Jai Shankar Prasad and Gopal Das Neeraj.The evening concluded with the presentation of the Manjushree Samman 2026 to women achievers from diverse fields. Officer on Special Duty in Police, Parveen Azad, IAS officer Ritu Suhas, UPSNA vice-president Vibha Prasad, Chief editor of UP Hindi Sansthan, Amita Dubey, and social activist Jyoti Kiran Ratan were felicitated on the occasion.
