16,722 factories got registered in UP since 2017, gave jobs to 15.99 lakh: Nandi

Lucknow: Industrial development minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi on Thursday said 16,722 factories were registered in the state since April 1, 2017. These units generated jobs for over 15 lakh workers. He was replying to starred questions on the ninth day of the Budget session. The queries were raised by MLAs Sandeep Singh and Dr Virendra Yadav.

He noted that in 2024-25, 3,646 factories were registered, while another 3,977 were registered in 2025-26. Sharing a region-wise break-up of proposals till 2025-26, he said: “Purvanchal accounted for 30.3%. Madhyanchal received 14.5%. Bundelkhand got 5%. Paschimanchal accounted for 50.2%.” Referring to the Defence Corridor, he said 6 nodes are being developed. 2 are in Bundelkhand. 2 are in Madhyanchal. 2 are in western UP. He said companies such as JK Cement and Varun Beverages invested in Prayagraj and production have already begun in one unit. Nandi said improved law and order boosted investor confidence. He said the govt is committed to the 1 trillion dollar economy target.
