Jal Jivan mission: Tap in every home in 25K UP villages | Lucknow News
Lucknow: Under Jal Jivan Mission, 26,564 villages in UP were marked ‘Har Ghar Jal’ by gram panchayats, indicating complete coverage of the villages with piped water connections.Functional household tap connections were provided to nearly 2.5 crore rural families, said a state govt spokesperson, adding this reflected an improvement in quality of rural life and a major step towards sustainable development and environmental protection.The official said, “Work is progressing rapidly in more than 97,000 villages and through these schemes, objective of delivering tap water to every rural household is being provided faster. To make the schemes cost-effective, govt gave priority to solar energy-based models and 80% of Gramin Pipe Peyajal Yojana in state is based on green energy.”Solar-based drinking water schemes resulted in reduction of around 13 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, the official added.Secretary of department of drinking water and sanitation, ministry of jal shakti, Ashok Kumar Meena, carried out field inspection of Chand Sarai Gramin Pipe Peyajal Yojana under Gosainganj development block recently and commended implementation of the scheme for its technical efficiency, clean and well-organised premises and overall project operation as excellent and exemplary, the official said.
