Ajit Singh murder case: HC grants bail to accused with riders

Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of Allahabad high court on Thursday granted bail to Pradeep Kumar Singh, accused in the murder of history-sheeter Ajit Singh in 2021. An FIR was registered at Vibhuti Khand Police Station, Lucknow.Ajit Singh, 35, a history-sheeter with over 40 cases was externed from his hometown Mau, was shot dead in Lucknow in Jan 2021. Pradeep had surrendered in Azamgarh court in another case.

Pradeep, who was in judicial custody since Nov 2021, sought bail on the grounds of false implication and prolonged pre-trial detention.The court noted that out of 78 witnesses listed, only 6 witnesses were examined, with the remainder being formal witnesses. Observing that the applicant’s involvement surfaced only in the later statement, and given no likelihood of evidence tampering, the bench held that the applicant was entitled to bail.HC granted bail subject to strict conditions. “He is prohibited from intimidating, influencing, or threatening witnesses or tampering with evidence,” the order said. He must file an undertaking to avoid seeking unnecessary adjournments when witnesses are present.The applicant must attend all court proceedings personally or through counsel, particularly for critical stages such as case opening, framing of charges, and recording of Section 313 CrPC statements. Any misuse of bail could result in the issuance of a proclamation under Section 82 CrPC and legal proceedings under Section 174-A IPC.The court further directed the trial court to expedite the trial without unnecessary delays, and instructed the ADG, STF, and Commissioner of Police, Lucknow, to ensure witness attendance in compliance with court directions.
