Ailing man dies after watching son beaten to death in Barabanki

Lucknow: A double tragedy took place in Barabanki after an ailing elderly died hours after witnessing his middle-aged son being beaten to death by relatives over a property dispute. The deceased were identified as Ramnath, 88, and his son Chetram, 45.Three named accused have been arrested.

The incident took place in Barabanki’s Ramnagar on Saturday evening but came to light on Monday.while the injured son later succumbed to his injuries during treatment at Lucknow’s KGMU.Police said the dispute was 25 years old after a piece of land was given for residential purposes to two villagers. While houses were constructed on part of the land, a portion remained vacant, triggering repeated clashes between the two sides.On Saturday, members of one faction allegedly began ploughing the disputed land which was opposed by the rival side. The argument escalated into violence. Chetram rushed to the spot on hearing the commotion and was allegedly attacked with sticks by his maternal cousins — Vinod, Gajodhar, Vishal and Narendra — in front of his father Ramnath.Chetram suffered serious injuries and was taken to the district hospital where doctors referred him to KGMU Lucknow. Ramnath, who had been ailing, suffered a severe shock after seeing his son grievously injured and died on Saturday night while Chetram succumbed to his injuries at KGMU on Sunday morning.Police have registered a murder case against four accused and arrested three of them. Additional police force has been deployed in the village to prevent further unrest.
