UP’s new Vidhan Sabha maycome up at Sahara Shahar

Lucknow: Sahara Shahar, once the epitome of a vast Sahara empire and a symbol of luxury and power that its lessee Subrato Roy reflected in his lifetime, may see the new Vidhan Sabha coming up on it. A final call on it is likely to be taken in three weeks of time.The Sahara Shahar, which once hosted lavish parties, is one of the few options that have been shortlisted by the officials, sources said, adding that among other options are defence expo land in Vrindavan Colony, existing Zoo land, which is likely to be shifted at Kukrail picnic spot and expansion of the existing Vidhan Sabha.

Sources said that a meeting headed by chief secretary Shashi Pakash Goyal was held in this regard around 10 days ago. In the meeting, it was decided that the departments concerned, like Awas Vikas (Urban Development) and LDA etc, should come up with a proposal in this regard in a month’s time.Sources also said that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also given go-ahead to come up with proposals for the new Vidhan Sabha.A senior official privy to the development said that construction of a new Vidhan Sabha is best suited at Sahara Shahar, which is biggest in terms of land size available. The area is also well connected to all major roads in the city and is not very far from the airport and railway station.A senior official told TOI that since the strength of Vidhan Sabha is sure to increase, the state was in need of a new Vidhan Sabha. The Sahara Shahar is spread in 170-acre land, while another 100 acres will be acquired further, sources said. Officials told TOI that once proposals are received after due time and finalized, the same will be put up before the Chief Minister for his final go-ahead.
