Lucknow: The city will witness the grandeur of Awadhi and Bengali culture at the 5-day Mahindra Sanatkada Lucknow festival season 17 scheduled from Jan 30 till Feb 3.The festival will be held at Safed Baradari, Raja Rampal Singh park and Amiruddaula public library. The venues will be decorated with bamboos and wooden lamps, kites, strings, mirrors and lights. The entrance will be given a look of a pandal replicating Bengali culture.

Shopaholics can visit 110 stalls selling Awadhi and Bengali handicrafts. Bengali prints including jamdani, kantha, kadam hath and pattachitra will be available. Awadhi prints such as aari, zardozi, leheriya and chattapati will also be available.Other prints including ikkat, ajrakh, Madhubani, shibri, kalamkari and bandhani will also be a part of handicrafts. Jewellery items ranging from pearls, precious stones, tribal, oxidised, silver and junk jewellery. Visitors can also buy Afghani jewellery and Jaipuri patwa jewellery. There will also be stalls of art demonstrations where artists will show how to make a particular art and visitor can buy it. There will be demonstrations of crochet, laak bangles, chikankari bloc making, leheriya dupatta making and kite making. There will be a stall of hair braiding for youngsters. Director of the festival, Tasveer Hasan said, “This 17th edition will bring together artists, scholars and storytellers who have travelled between the two cities and still carry their intertwined memories, innovative installations and immersive exhibitions on the theme. Over a 100 artisans from across South Asia will present their distinct crafts, each piece carrying its own tale of heritage”.
