‘Plant reflects our net-zero mobility push’

Lucknow: Union minister for heavy industries and steel HD Kumaraswamy on Friday said Uttar Pradesh’s new electric bus manufacturing facility reflects India’s broader roadmap towards net-zero carbon emissions and self-reliant mobility.Praising Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure growth, Kumaraswamy said, “The state has emerged as a hub of the country’s largest expressway and railway networks, creating a strong foundation for advanced manufacturing.” He described the Ashok Leyland facility as a milestone not only for the company but also for India’s clean mobility journey.

The minister said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India charted an ambitious path towards net-zero emissions, while strengthening the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. Highlighting govt support for electric mobility, he said the FAME-II scheme, with an outlay of Rs 11,500 crore, facilitated the adoption of over 16.7 lakh electric vehicles and sanctioned more than 9,000 public charging stations.He added that the PM e-DRIVE scheme, with an outlay of Rs 10,900 crore, accelerated EV adoption, with over 20 lakh vehicles sold so far. The minister said Rs 2,000 crore was earmarked under the PM e-DRIVE scheme to set up over 70,000 charging stations nationwide.
