Police teams search for absconding KGMU doctor in UP, U’khand | Lucknow News
Lucknow: Lucknow Police have deployed five teams across Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand to arrest KGMU doctor Rameezuddin Naik in connection with the alleged religious conversion case.Naik has been evading arrest by frequently changing locations, police said, adding that while a non-bailable warrant has already been issued against the accused, on Monday, the reward price was revised to Rs 50,000 from Rs 25,000, for information leading to his arrest. DCP West Vishwajeet Srivastava said that the search operations were intensified and efforts are underway to apprehend the accused at the earliest. Meanwhile, police on Monday arrested the parents of the accused doctor, saying they played a key role in the alleged religious conversion and forced miscarriage of 2 women medical students. The accused doctor’s parents, Salimuddin, 70, and his wife Khateeja, 67, were arrested from a rented flat in the Thakurganj area of Lucknow, Srivastava said. According to the DCP, the couple was allegedly involved in the religious conversion and miscarriage of 2 women medical students, 1 studying at King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow and the other at a medical college in Agra. On Dec 23, the KGMU student submitted a written complaint at Chowk police station, alleging that her senior established physical relations with her on the pretext of marriage and later forced her to terminate her pregnancy. She further alleged that she was pressured to convert her religion. Based on the complaint, an FIR was registered under sections related to rape, miscarriage and marriage by deceit under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3 and 5 of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act, 2021. Another woman medical student from Agra also accused the doctor of sexual assault, forced religious conversion and miscarriage.
