Pathak opens new cath lab at RMLIMS

Lucknow: A new cardiac catheterisation laboratory (cath lab) was inaugurated at Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) on Wednesday.It will reduce the waiting time for people awaiting cardiac procedures. The lab was inaugurated by Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak. He said the govt is committed to strengthening advanced cardiac care facilities in the public sector. He also announced further expansion of cardiac facilities at the institute. Pathak said the procurement process is underway for 1 more cath lab, 2 TMT machines, 3 advanced echocardiography machines, and 1 IVUS system. With these additions, RMLIMS is expected to be fully equipped with modern cardiac diagnostic and interventional infrastructure. The newly inaugurated cath lab is equipped with advanced imaging and interventional technologies. Prof Sudarshan K Vijay, a faculty member in the cardiology department, said the facility will significantly reduce waiting time for cardiac procedures and enhance the overall capacity and efficiency of the department. “At present, there are 2 cath labs. Earlier, we were able to perform 20–25 cardiac procedures a day; now we will be able to carry out 30–35 procedures,” he said. Director Prof C M Singh said official data show a steady rise in patient load at the cardiology department over the past year, reflecting growing public trust in the institute. During this period, 57,132 patients were examined in the cardiology outpatient department, while 6,392 patients were admitted for advanced cardiac care.
