Welfare plans should reach the last person, says minister | Lucknow News
Lucknow: Minister for backward classes welfare and empowerment of persons with disabilities Narendra Kashyap on Tuesday asked departmental officials to ensure the welfare schemes reach the last person and that the universities for persons with disabilities are strengthened.Chairing a review meeting, Kashyap said, “Yogi govt’s policies are not limited to mere assistance, but are focused on empowering the last person in society.”
The minister instructed officials to conduct awareness programmes, workshops and publicity campaigns at the divisional level to connect as many students with disabilities as possible to higher education. He also asked officials to improve academic quality in the universities.He instructed officials to hold regular review meetings at the district level and coordinate with DMs to expedite the work. Officials, during the meeting, apprised Kashyap that in 2025-26, 72,690 beneficiaries will benefit from the marriage grant scheme, 12.7 lakh students will receive assistance under the scholarship scheme and targets are set for 25,588 ‘O’ Level and 9,304 ‘CCC’ trainees under the computer training scheme.Further, it was shared that 11.8 lakh PwD are receiving disability pensions, 13,357 beneficiaries are receiving leprosy pensions and 16.9 lakh PwD benefited from the free bus travel scheme.
