ANTF nabs two drug traffickers with over 81 kg ganja worth Rs 50 lakh in Barabanki

Lucknow: Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) police station, Barabanki, arrested 2 active drug traffickers and seized a consignment of illegal ganja weighing 81.824 kilograms, estimated to be worth around Rs 50 lakh, along with a car, cash and a mobile phone, on Tuesday.The arrested accused were identified as Ankur Shivhare (35) and Shyam Shivhare (40), both residents of Jalaun. According to police, the duo was apprehended about 150 metres from Iglas Pura Chauraha under Orai police station. During the search, ANTF teams recovered 81.824 kg of illegal ganja, 1 Alto 800 car, an Android mobile phone and Rs 800 in cash. A case was registered under sections 8/20/29/60 of the NDPS Act, 1985, and further legal proceedings are under way. During interrogation, the accused confessed that they jointly pooled money to procure ganja, which was then sold to customers at higher prices. The profits, they said, were used to support their families. Police obtained details of local markets from where the contraband was sourced and are now working on forward and backward linkages to identify and take action against other members of the drug network. Police records reveal that both accused have a criminal history, including previous cases under the NDPS Act, Gangster Act and other serious offences registered in Jalaun and Jhansi.
