UP Police is a symbol of fear for criminals, trust for citizens: Yogi

Lucknow: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said that the Uttar Pradesh Police has emerged as a symbol of fear for criminals and trust for ordinary citizens, reflecting a historic transformation in the state’s law-and-order ecosystem over the past eight-and-a-half years.Addressing the two-day state-level senior police officers’ conference, Police Manthan-2025, at the police headquarters, the CM said, “Uttar Pradesh has witnessed a decisive shift in both perception and performance of police since 2017. The change is not a matter of official claims but is validated by the everyday experiences of citizens, which have positioned UP as a model of reform-driven policing at the national and global level.Sharing his vision of “smart policing”, the CM said sweeping reforms were made out across every layer of the police system — ranging from recruitment and training to infrastructure, technology adoption, cyber security, forensic capabilities, and modern operational frameworks.“The role of police has evolved from being largely reactive to proactive and increasingly predictive, driven by data, technology, and scientific assessment,” he said. The CM highlighted that where training capacity was once limited, the state was now training over 60,000 police constables annually within Uttar Pradesh itself. He underlined the expansion of institutional capabilities, including cyber police stations in all 75 districts, 12 forensic science laboratories, and the establishment of a forensic university, calling these milestones reflective of a future-ready policing mindset.Emphasising citizen-centric reforms, he referred to the rollout of police commissionerate system, strengthening of emergency response through UP-112, implementation of the Safe City model, increased recruitment of women police personnel, and steady progress towards predictive policing.“These initiatives have collectively strengthened public confidence while tightening the grip on organised and violent crime,” Yogi said. The CM stressed the need for adopting best practices, embracing innovation, and ensuring time-bound, outcome-oriented implementation at all levels. He called for data-driven and scientifically grounded policing that remains firmly centred on citizen welfare, accountability, and professionalism.Expressing confidence in the outcome of the two-day deliberations, Yogi said Police Manthan-2025 would help shape clear policy direction, sharpen strategy, and improve execution on the ground, giving fresh momentum to comprehensive policing reforms in Uttar Pradesh.“The state police must continue to move forward with resolve and confidence to meet emerging challenges and safeguard public trust,” he said.
