Man held for hoax bomb threat to frame wife’s lover

Lucknow: A 43-year-old man who allegedly issued a hoax bomb threat targeting Charbagh Railway Station and Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport to implicate his wife’s lover was arrested on Saturday.According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), the accused, Umesh Kumar, a resident of Bhilawa in the Alambagh area, used a mobile phone registered in the name of his wife’s lover to execute the plan. Police said the accused had repeatedly objected to his wife’s communication with the man, but the two allegedly continued to remain in contact. Investigators revealed that Kumar took possession of the mobile phone, reportedly given to his wife by the lover. He then dialled the women’s helpline number 1090 and falsely claimed that Charbagh Railway Station and the airport would be blown up. The threat triggered immediate alarm, with the information relayed by the control room to local police and GRP Charbagh. Security agencies swiftly initiated checks and registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. During the probe, the call was traced, leading police to Kartikeya Srivastava, who told them that he had given the phone and SIM card to his lover six months ago. Police then reached his lover’s house, where the woman told them that the phone was in the possession of her husband, Umesh Kumar. During questioning, Umesh confessed to the crime, following which he was booked under Sections 212(A) and 351(3) of the BNS at GRP Charbagh police station and was sent to judicial custody. Police also recovered the mobile phone used in making the hoax call from his possession.
