Deity, temples bedecked for Navratri, new year | Lucknow News
Lucknow: Temples across the city are decked for the nine-day festival of Chaitra Navratri starting from Thursday. Special arrangements have been made for devotees as the day also marks beginning of the Hindu lunar new year, Vikram Samvat. Nine forms of goddess Durga will be worshipped on each day, while ninth day of the festival marks birth of Lord Ram. At Sandohan Devi temple in Chaupatiya, the deity will be seated on a different vaahan (vehicle) each day of Navratri, said temple coordinator Anoop Verma. At Kali Bari temple in Ghasiyari Mandi, the goddess will be dressed in silk Kanjivaram and Banarasi sarees and adorned with a gold crown, said Gautam Bhattacharya, president, management committee. Fairs will be organised at Chandrika Devi temple and Badi Kaliji temple. Chandrika Devi temple has been decorated with red roses and the shrine will open at 5pm. Badi Kaliji temple has been decorated with multi-coloured curtains, organic and artificial flowers and lights.
