KGMU gets Rs 50 lakh CSR boost for subsidised robotic surgeries

Lucknow: Indian Bank has contributed Rs 50 lakh under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to KGMU to support robotic surgeries for economically weaker patients. The contribution was handed over during a visit by bank officials to the university. The fund will be used to provide robotic surgeries either free or at subsidised rates for patients who cannot afford the treatment. University officials said the support was facilitated through the efforts of vice-chancellor Prof Soniya Nityanand, under whose leadership robotic surgery services were introduced at KGMU. Two robotic surgical systems were installed at the university, enabling the start of these procedures. At present, robotic surgeries at KGMU are already offered at subsidised rates compared to private setups in the city. However, many patients still find the cost prohibitive. The CSR funding, officials said, is expected to help more than 100 patients undergo robotic surgery at no cost.
