CBI nabs man for online fraud | Lucknow News
Lucknow: The CBI arrested a Kanpur-based man for allegedly recruiting Indian nationals and sending them to overseas cyber fraud centres, where they were forced to participate in online scams targeting victims in India. The accused, identified as Krishna Kumar Lakhwani, a resident of Kanpur, was allegedly part of an organised criminal syndicate that lured job seekers with promises of lucrative employment abroad and trafficked them to scam centres operating in foreign countries, including Cambodia. According to the CBI, organised cybercrime syndicates set up large scam centres in certain foreign jurisdictions to carry out large-scale cyber fraud while evading the reach of Indian law enforcement agencies. These centres allegedly targeted Indian citizens through various online frauds such as digital arrest scams, identity theft, and financial extortion. CBI officials said they received credible information that Lakhwani was actively recruiting candidates from India and sending them to cyber scam centres in Cambodia. He allegedly charged around 300 to 400 dollars from each candidate while facilitating their travel arrangements. Acting on the information, the CBI kept the accused under surveillance and tracked his movements. He was intercepted upon his arrival in India and brought to the CBI office for questioning.
