Court cancels election of corporator; asks LMC to administer oath to runner-up | Lucknow News
Lucknow: The state urban development department directed the Lucknow district administration and the LMC to administer the oath to Lalit Tiwari as corporator of Faizullaganj Ward III, following a district court order cancelling the election of the sitting corporator and declaring Tiwari the elected representative.The election of corporator Pradeep Kumar Shukla, who won from Faizullaganj Ward III in the 2023 civic polls, was declared null and void by the court for concealing information in his election affidavit, following a petition filed by Tiwari.
The court held that Shukla failed to disclose details about his first wife in the affidavit filed during nomination and did not provide complete information regarding assets linked to family members.The court also declared Tiwari, who contested the election from the ward and was runner-up, elected to the post.“After several court orders and directions from the urban development department, I am still running from one department to another to get justice,” said Lalit Tiwari.When TOI contacted LMC, a senior official said that they were considering the legal aspects, as the sitting corporator filed a petition in a higher court. Soon, the corporation would take action as per legal procedure.Corporator Pradeep Kumar Shukla of Faizullaganj Ward III did not comment on the issue.
