Planetarium to host spl show on ‘blood moon’ sighting

Lucknow: The Indira Gandhi Planetarium, with the Uttar Pradesh Amateur Astronomers Club, will hold a free public night-sky observation programme on Tuesday evening as Lucknow witnesses ‘blood moon’ during the year’s first total lunar eclipse.During the lunar eclipse, the moon’s reddish glow is caused by the earth’s atmosphere scattering shorter blue light while allowing red light to pass through, creating the distinctive ‘blood moon’ effect.

According to experts, lunar eclipse will start at 3.20pm. The total phase lasting 59 minutes will begin at 4.34pm and end at 5.33pm. Thereafter, the partial eclipse will end at 6.47pm. The sunset in Lucknow will take place at 6.08pm. Hence, people will be able to see the ending phase of 39 minutes.Visitors will get the opportunity to view the eclipse through telescopes and experience the lunar spectacle firsthand.
