Lucknow: Stating that healthy India was fundamental to realising the vision of Viksit Bharat, Union health secretary Punya Salila Srivastava said significant strides were made in healthcare across the country. She was addressing the first graduation ceremony at AIIMS Rae Bareli on Wednesday. The event marked a milestone for the institute as degrees were conferred on its inaugural MBBS batch (2019–20) and postgraduate resident doctors from the Jan 2023 batch. A total of 48 MBBS students and 25 PG residents received their degrees. Dr Harsh Kushwaha, who topped the MBBS programme, received the gold medal. Srivastava highlighted the institute’s role in implementing flagship schemes such as e-Sanjeevani, PM-JAY and PM-ABHIM. She noted that over 2 lakh tele-consultations were conducted through e-Sanjeevani and more than 1 lakh ABHA registrations were completed, calling digital health records and telemedicine crucial for expanding access and improving policy planning. Earlier, the health secretary inaugurated 3 new facilities at the hospital — PACS and forensic radiology services, video-urodynamics in the paediatric surgery department, and a new endoscopy unit. Officials said the PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) would speed up access to X-ray, CT scan and MRI reports, enable seamless digital record-sharing, and strengthen medico-legal documentation. The video-urodynamics facility is expected to improve diagnosis and management of urinary disorders in children, including neurological conditions. The endoscopy unit will provide faster and more precise diagnostic services, reduce treatment costs, and offer a safer option for elderly and high-risk patients. Institute president Padma Shri Dr R V Ramani congratulated the graduates and administered the Charak oath, emphasising that health development is integral to social progress. Executive director Dr Amita Jain presented the institute’s annual report and outlined plans to strengthen research and academic excellence at AIIMS Rae Bareli.
