Maya denounces ‘wrong portrayal’ of Brahmins | Lucknow News
Lucknow: Joining the furore over ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’, a movie on an OTT platform, BSP national president Mayawati on Friday denounced the alleged wrong portrayal of Brahmins and demanded that the central govt should ban the “casteist film”.“It is a matter of concern, and unfortunate, that not only in UP, but also in films, Pandits (Brahmins) are being portrayed as corrupt. They are being humiliated and disrespected across the country for some time now. This has caused immense anger among the entire Brahmin community. Our party strongly condemns it,” Mayawati said in a post on X.
Besides demanding a ban on the film, Mayawati said it was appropriate for the Lucknow police to file an FIR against the director and creative team of the movie. This came almost a week after the BSP chief called the Supreme Court’s order to stay the UGC’s new rules “appropriate”. In her Jan 29 post on X, she had said that the new rules implemented by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to prevent casteist incidents in the country’s govt and private universities created an atmosphere of social tension. In both the matters involving upper castes, Mayawati’s stances were in sync with her latest strategy to woo upper castes, particularly Brahmins ahead of the 2027 assembly elections in UP.
