UP 'honour killing': Chilling details emerge of how woman was murdered; hands tied, mouth gagged with ‘dupatta’, electrocuted

LUCKNOW: In a suspected case of honour killing, a 21-year-old woman from Babapurwa Thorhans village in Gonda district was allegedly killed by her father and brother after she insisted on marrying the man of her choice. Police have arrested the accused and charged them with murder. Investigations reveal chilling details of how the crime was carried out.How the murder happened:

  • The victim had been in a relationship with a distant relative for nearly two years, and they intended to marry.
  • Her father (52) and brother (23) were strongly opposed to the relationship.
  • On Saturday morning, the father-son duo tried to persuade her to end the relationship. When she refused, they allegedly took her into a room.
  • The victim’s hands were tied to the leg of a wooden cot using a muffler, and her mouth was gagged with her ‘dupatta’.
  • They gave her electric shocks, which led to her death.
  • The woman’s family claimed the death was accidental, but her lover alleged it was murder because the family opposed the marriage.
  • Police recovered items used in the crime, including a muffler, ‘dupatta’, and an electric cable.
  • During interrogation, the father and brother confessed to the crime.

A police team led by city circle officer Anand Kumar Rai and kotwal Shamsher Singh, along with a forensic unit and dog squad, conducted the investigation.A case of murder was registered against the father and brother, and they remain in custody.
