Verma spl guest at R-Day parade in Delhi | Lucknow News
Lucknow: The city’s project officer with the district ganga committee, Shivang Verma, will represent Lucknow at the Republic Day parade in New Delhi as a special guest, in recognition of his sustained and impactful contributions in the field of river conservation and public awareness. Verma is among several officers selected as “Water Warriors” by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), under the Union ministry of Jal Shakti, for his active participation in large-scale awareness initiatives for the conservation and rejuvenation of the River Gomti. His work focuses on behavioural change, community participation, and river-centric environmental responsibility.
In addition to the Gomti, Verma has also led and supported awareness and sensitisation programmes related to the Kukrail river, highlighting its ecological importance and the need for integrated river–wetland conservation in urban and peri-urban landscapes. Unit head (Communications & Outreach), State Mission for Clean Ganga, UP, Sonalika Singh, said, “By being invited as a special guest for the Republic Day Parade, Shivang will represent Lucknow as a ‘Water Warrior’, carrying forward the city’s commitment to river conservation, public awareness, and sustainable water management at the national stage. His efforts have consistently emphasised youth engagement, citizen ownership, and convergence among departments.” Recognised at national and international platforms, Verma is an Asia Book of Records holder and has been listed among the UN 10 Young Inspirational Leaders from India, acknowledging his leadership and innovative approach to environmental governance and water stewardship.
