Bonfires, folk songs mark Lohri ccelebrations in city

Lucknow: Amid dancing around bonfires on folk songs and the distribution of traditional til ke ladoo, rewri, and chikki, people celebrated the festival of Lohri with great enthusiasm. Newlyweds, clad in traditional attire, participated in the festivities with utmost zeal and excitement.Amanpreet Kaur and Harjaspal Singh, who got married a few months ago, celebrated their first Lohri together. “I’m extremely happy as this is our first Lohri together. We prayed for each other’s long life, and my husband gifted me a gold bracelet,” said Amanpreet. Meanwhile, another newlywed couple, Jasleen Kaur and Harmanpreet Baweja, who got married a month ago, gifted each other rings on the occasion.

Gaganpreet Kaur and Gurtej Singh celebrated Lohri with their newborn daughter, Manpreet. “We are overjoyed this Lohri as, after two sons, God has blessed us with a baby girl. We have organised a party to celebrate the festival,” said Gurtej. Another couple, Sahiba Kaur and Vinay Vohra, who recently welcomed their first son, Gurbaaj Singh, also marked the occasion with joy. “After two miscarriages, God has blessed me with a son, and I’m extremely happy,” said Sahiba. The family hosted a lavish party to celebrate their son’s first Lohri. At Mansarovar Gurudwara on Kanpur Road, ‘Asa Di Vaar’ kirtan was sung by Sukhjeet Singh and Paramjeet Singh. In the evening, a bonfire was lit as devotees gathered to sing hymns and folk songs, dancing to the beats of the dhol with music adding to the festive spirit.
