SSB sleuths seize cash from car, detain five youths at India-Nepal border | Lucknow News
Lucknow: Personnel of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) on Monday seized a large amount of cash from a blue-beacon-fitted Innova Crysta at the Rupaidihā Checkpost along the India–Nepal border and detained five youths from Lucknow who attempted to cross into Nepal.The incident occurred around noon when SSB jawans stopped the Innova Crysta, fitted with a blue beacon and hooter, as it approached the checkpost from the Indian side. During preliminary questioning, the occupants allegedly attempted to browbeat security personnel by claiming senior secretariat-level status, raising suspicion among the jawans.
A thorough search of the vehicle and the occupants led to the recovery of an electronic chip device, Rs 2,17,480 in cash, and several high-end mobile phones. Unable to provide any satisfactory explanation for possessing the cash or their intended travel to Nepal, the five were taken into custody. Rupaidihā police station in-charge Ramesh Rawat said the detained youths were identified as Dharmendra Singh, Shubham Bajpai, Anmol Yadav, Sachin Singh and Swapnil Sahay, all residents of Lucknow. Apart from cash, police recovered multiple mobile phones—including iPhone, Samsung, Oppo and Vivo handsets—along with ATM cards, credit cards, Aadhaar cards, PAN cards and driving licences. The SSB handed over the accused, the vehicle and the seized items to Rupaidihā police for further legal action. A case was registered against all five under Section 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) (cheating by personation) and they were produced before a court under police custody. Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the cash, the purpose of the electronic device, and whether the accused were part of any larger network involved in illegal cross-border activities.
