Screams, smashed skulls, flying flesh: Labourer descends into psychosis, kills wife and mother; cannibal horror stuns UP village

LUCKNOW: Screams, smashed skulls, flying flesh shattered the calm of a Uttar Pradesh village on Monday morning when a 30-year-old labourer brutally murdered his wife and mother on the rooftop of his house and then chewed flesh from their smashed skulls as horrified villagers watched. The chilling crime unfolded in Parsa village under Ahirauli police station limits in Kushinagar district, leaving residents and police shell-shocked. Alerted by desperate screams and unusual movement on the rooftop, villagers rushed towards the house, only to witness a scene of unspeakable violence. Eyewitnesses said the accused began hurling pieces of flesh at the gathering crowd, triggering panic and chaos. The accused, identified as Sikandar Gupta (30), was arrested by police soon after. A labourer who worked in Mumbai, Sikandar had returned to his native village about a month ago. Villagers alleged he was addicted to alcohol and ganja and frequently assaulted his wife and mother, often threatening to kill them.According to police, Sikandar first attacked his wife, Priyanka (28), and mother, Runa Devi (60), with sticks on the rooftop. He then picked up a cement brick and repeatedly smashed their heads, killing both on the spot. After the murders, he allegedly mutilated the bodies, tore flesh from their skulls and consumed it in full public view.“A case of double murder has been registered, and we are also examining the accused’s mental condition,” said Kushinagar superintendent of police Keshav Mishra.Independent criminologist Ashok Srivastava said acts of cannibalism reflect extreme psychopathology driven by domination, deep psychological trauma and, at times, neurological factors. “Such acts are often about total control. By consuming the body, the offender believes the victim can never escape. It is the highest form of dehumanisation,” he said.Lucknow-based senior clinical psychologist PK Khattri said the accused appears to be suffering from psychosis, a severe mental disorder marked by delusions and possible hallucinations. He noted that Sikandar was highly agitated and unwilling to communicate, pointing to a deeply disturbed mental state.
