Tourism dept’s campaign to promote homestays and B&Bs | Lucknow News
Lucknow: To expand facilities and boost local employment, UP tourism department will conduct a statewide awareness campaign for homestay and bed and breakfast (B&B) scheme from Jan 14-30.The campaign will focus on major tourist destinations across districts, promoting the scheme while reviewing pending proposals and issuing registration certificates to eligible applicants.
The initiative seeks to strengthen the state’s tourism infrastructure and create employment opportunities for residents. Under the programme, district teams will educate locals about the benefits of the scheme and facilitate registration for those interested in hosting tourists. The department has allocated Rs 2 lakh per district to fund awareness activities and promotional materials.Launched under the UP Tourism Homestay and B&B Scheme-2025, the initiative allows residents to convert their homes into homestays, offering visitors home-cooked meals, local culture, and personalised hospitality. The scheme provides an affordable alternative to hotels while generating additional income for host families.The campaign will prioritise high-potential districts such as Mathura, Varanasi, Lucknow, Prayagraj, and Ayodhya, where cultural and religious events like Maha Kumbh, Deepotsav, and Rangotsav attract large tourist inflows.“The awareness drive aims to ensure maximum participation, expand the network of quality homestays, and provide a culturally immersive experience for visitors, while empowering locals through sustainable tourism,” an official said.
