Woman, two minor daughters found dead in pond in Bahraich | Lucknow News
Lucknow: The bodies of a woman and her two minor daughters were recovered from a pond barely 30 metres from their house in Bahraich on Sunday, triggering allegations of dowry-linked harassment and murder by the woman’s parental family.Police registered an FIR against the husband and his parents and took them into custody for questioning.
The incident occurred in Payagpur town under the jurisdiction of Payagpur police station. The deceased were identified as Nisha Gupta (35) and her daughters Misti (7) and Khushboo (2). Nisha’s father alleged that his daughter was repeatedly taunted and harassed by her in-laws for not bearing a male child and claimed the trio was murdered and their bodies were dumped in the pond.Circle Officer, Payagpur, Harshita Tiwari said it was not yet clear whether Nisha died by suicide along with her daughters or whether the deaths were homicidal. “The exact cause will be determined after post-mortem examinations, and we are also questioning the husband and other family members about what led to this,” she added.According to Nisha’s father Ramchandra Gupta, a resident of Shivpur village, he received information around 1 am on Sunday that his daughter and granddaughters were found dead. “My daughter was subjected to constant taunts and harassment by her in-laws. She complained to me several times about being beaten,” he alleged. Nisha was married to Vishnu Gupta of Payagpur about 12 years ago. The couple had three daughters: Lado (10), Misti (7) and Khushboo (2).Vishnu told police that Nisha spoke to someone on his mobile phone around 8 pm on Saturday and later left the house with the two daughters while he was having dinner. The eldest daughter slept with her grandfather. When Nisha did not return for a long time, the family began searching and found a child’s jacket floating near the pond behind the house, following which police were informed.Around 2 am, police teams recovered all three bodies from the pond and took them to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead.The CO said an FIR was lodged against the husband and parents-in-law on the basis of the father’s complaint. “The bodies were sent for post-mortem. The husband and his parents were detained and are being questioned. Further action will be taken based on forensic and post-mortem reports,” the officer said.
