Murdered Nepal cop’s body found dumped in Bahraich

Lucknow: In a chilling cross-border crime, a constable of Nepal’s Armed Police Force (APF), posted in Kathmandu, was allegedly murdered, and his body was dumped in a forest area on the Indian side of the Indo-Nepal border in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich district. The deceased was identified as Khem Bahadur Sonar (38).Sonar, a resident of Khajura rural municipality in Banke district, had returned home just two days earlier after taking 10 days’ leave.

According to family members, Sonar left his house on Thursday along with a few friends, saying he was going for a walk in the border area. However, he did not return by evening, prompting relatives to launch a search. Late on Saturday, villagers informed police about a body lying in a forest near Balai village under the jurisdiction of Motipur police station of Bahraich.Police reached the spot and recovered documents found near the body, which helped establish the identity. Sonar’s father-in-law, Heeralal, later arrived at the police station and formally identified the body.Station house officer Anand Chaurasia said a preliminary examination revealed multiple injury marks and burn injuries on the body, indicating that Sonar was murdered before being dumped in the forest. The body was sent for a post-mortem examination.Police began an investigation from multiple angles, including the possibility of a cross-border crime. Authorities said Nepal police would also be informed, and coordination between Indian and Nepali agencies was expected as the probe progressed.
