He avoided use of mobile, was planning to flee country

Lucknow: Rameezuddin alias Ramiz, 31, the junior resident doctor of King George’s Medical University (KGMU), who was absconding since Dec 23, deliberately avoided using a mobile phone and refrained from carrying out any banking or digital transactions to evade electronic surveillance, police officials said on Friday. They added that he also allegedly planned to flee the country.Police sources said the accused remained on the run for over 2 weeks, constantly changing locations and seeking shelter at different places across western and central Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, including Shamli, Delhi, Muzaffarnagar, Bareilly and Shahjahanpur. Investigators said the junior resident survived on a limited amount of cash during this period and avoided leaving any digital trail. Preliminary inquiries also suggested that he explored ways to leave India, prompting the police to accelerate coercive legal measures against him. The breakthrough came after authorities initiated proceedings to attach his properties under legal provisions for the absconding accused. The notices warning of confiscation were pasted at his known premises earlier this week, following which pressure mounted on the fugitive. Soon after the notices were served, the accused travelled to Lucknow by bus and reached the Kaiserbagh bus station, from where he proceeded to find a lawyer before planning to surrender in court. However, informers told Chowk police, and the plan was foiled; he was arrested, officials said.
