Lucknow: King George’s Medical University (KGMU) on Friday submitted a complaint at Chowk police station, seeking registration of an FIR against state women’s commission vice-chairperson Aparna Yadav and her supporters for allegedly creating a ruckus on the university campus. A copy of the complaint is with TOI.According to the complaint and events witnessed on the spot, the incident occurred around 12.30 pm, shortly after the vice chancellor concluded a press conference. large crowd gathered near the main gate of the VC’s office, which KGMU officials were told comprised Yadav’s supporters.KGMU said that, in view of the rapidly swelling crowd and apprehension of an untoward incident, university security and the police were alerted. When asked whether Yadav conveyed any official communication about her visit, the VC said the university received no prior intimation of her arrival. She was engaged in pre-scheduled faculty promotion committee meetings, attended by subject experts from reputed medical institutions nominated by the governor.As the crowd swelled to around 150-200 people, Yadav’s vehicle reached the VC office gate. Soon after, the crowd allegedly turned aggressive, raising slogans against the KGMU administration, creating panic and forcing security personnel, teachers and staff to move to safer areas.The complaint stated that the crowd broke open the door of the VC’s chamber, forcibly entered the office, raised slogans and damaged property. KGMU spokesperson Prof KK Singh said the matter was immediately reported to the offices of the governor, chief minister, deputy chief minister, and the health and medical education minister. Police personnel reached the spot and, after nearly one hour, brought the situation under control. “The incident disrupted normal administrative functioning,” he said.KGMU also alleged that the official mobile phone of the VC went missing during the commotion. The disturbance also allegedly disrupted an MBBS first-year written examination held in the examination hall above the VC office.“The actions of the crowd amounted to obstruction of govt work, damage to public property, misbehaviour with women faculty members, disruption of students’ examinations, and creation of an atmosphere of fear on campus,” KGMU chief proctor Prof RAS Kushwaha said, adding that the university requested the police to register an FIR and initiate legal action.After the commotion, Yadav addressed a press conference at Brown Hall on the KGMU campus, where she raised questions over the alleged mental harassment of women doctors, claiming the administration was not taking strict action on attempted forced conversion, and questioned the impartiality of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC).“A formal complaint has been received from KGMU authorities and we are looking into it for further legal action,” SHO, Chowk, Nagesh Upadhyay said.Attempt to tarnish KGMU, says teachers’ body KGMU teachers’ association and the state employees’ joint council of UP condemned the incident at the vice chancellor’s office, calling it an attempt to tarnish the reputation of KGMU. State employees joint council general secretary Atul Mishra demanded a high-level inquiry by the chief minister and governor of UP, and strict action against those responsible.He said it was unfortunate that a woman VC of a national-level institution was allegedly insulted. Mishra warned that if no action was taken, the council may take a decision involving 12 lakh state employees, potentially affecting essential services. Teachers’ association secretary Prof Santosh Kumar said the teachers’ body would also hold a peaceful candle march in protest.
