Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is aiming to become a $ 1trillion economy with agriculture at the forefront of this vision.This was highlighted during a special lecture on ‘Uttar Pradesh as a One Trillion Dollar Economy – Targeting State GDP’, organised by the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Research Chair, department of sociology, Lucknow University on Thursday.Manoj Kumar Singh, CEO of the State Transformation Commission, said, “Real development is that which people feel in their everyday lives. Uttar Pradesh has the potential to become the powerhouse of Indian agriculture, but we are yet to fully utilise this potential.”“Agriculture contributes nearly 25% to India’s output. While it covers 45% of the country’s land, in Uttar Pradesh it extends to 75%, with 86% of it irrigated. The state ranks first in 15 major products, including wheat, mango, milk, watermelon, and guava,” he said“Export oriented strategies, accurate weather forecasting, and uniform pricing are crucial to making agriculture both profitable and inclusive.” he added.
