Man gets three years in jail for contempt of court | Lucknow News
Lucknow: A district court in Azamgarh on Tuesday sentenced one Akhand Pratap Singh to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs7,000 for wilful disobedience of court orders.The conviction was delivered in a case related to contempt of court and absconding despite proclamation orders.
According to prosecution records, on Sep 19, 2019, sub-inspector Naval Kishore Singh of Tarwan police station, Azamgarh, lodged a written complaint stating that Akhand Pratap Singh, a resident of Jamua village under Tarwan police limits, deliberately violated court orders and failed to appear before the court even after a proclamation under section 82 of the criminal procedure code was issued against him.Following this, Tarwan police registered a case. After completion of the investigation, a charge sheet was filed before the competent court.During the trial, a total of 11 prosecution witnesses were examined. Based on scientific investigation, evidence collection, and legal representation by the police and public prosecutor, the court found the accused guilty and awarded him three years’ imprisonment along with a monetary penalty of Rs7,000.Police officials said Singh is a state-level identified mafia and is a history-sheeter of Tarwan police station. He has a long criminal history spanning multiple districts.As per official records, a total of 38 criminal cases are registered against him under serious charges such as murder, loot, dacoity, the Gangsters Act, SC/ST Act, Arms Act and the Goonda Act.The convicted mafia is currently lodged in Bareilly district jail, police said.
