Women gang of same family looting jewellery busted, 3 held

Lucknow: A 3-member women gang that allegedly moved from district-to-district every 10 to 15 days to carry out jewellery thefts was busted by Aminabad police on Tuesday.“The accused, Sunita (30) of Basti, her sister Anita (35) of Gorakhpur, and their sister-in-law Kiran (30) of Deoria, would arrive in a district, target busy marketplaces and public transport for about 2 weeks, and then shift to another district to avoid being tracked,” said SHO Sunil Kumar Azad. Azad added that the case came to light after Mithilesh Jaiswal of Rathkhana lodged a complaint stating that on Jan 3, while she was travelling with her daughter from Post Office Tiraha towards Rakabganj in an e-rickshaw, 3 women stole her gold chain and locket, along with a gold chain worn by her daughter. An FIR was registered at Aminabad police station under section 303(2) of the BNS. “During investigation, police analysed CCTV footage and technical evidence to trace the suspects. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested the trio from the Janana Park area of Aminabad on Tuesday,” he added. One gold chain, a gold locket attached to a mangalsutra, and Rs 3,800 cash were recovered from their possession.
