‘Farmers procured 2.13L metric tonnes millet this season’ | Lucknow News
Lucknow: Leaning towards flexible and attractive framework provided by the Yogi Adityanath govt, millet farmers during the 2025-26 kharif marketing season preferred selling their produce at govt procurement centres over open market sales, officials said.The transparent and farmer-friendly system promoted by the state govt encouraged cultivators and farmers to participate in the govt system. A senior govt officer said that a total of 2.13 lakh metric tonnes of millet, 43,652 tonnes of sorghum and 12,208 tonnes of maize were procured across UP during this season.
Millets were traded in 33 districts, maize in 25 and sorghum in 11. The minimum support price for sorghum (maldandi) was pegged at Rs 3,749 per quintal, Rs 3,699 for hybrid sorghum variety, Rs 2,775 for millet and Rs 2,400 for maize.A total of 90,513 farmers registered with the state, out of which 54,253 sold their produce and received payments amounting to Rs 598 crore. Compared to previous financial year, the procurement of millets, sorghum and maize, the three millet crops produced by small and marginal farmers, increased during the 2025-26 season, resulting in higher payouts and timely payments to Shree Anna farmers.
