NY chaos: Six policeman sent to lines

Lucknow: Taking stern action following massive traffic congestion during New Year celebrations, the Lucknow police initiated disciplinary proceedings against several police officials for alleged negligence in controlling encroachments that led to severe traffic jams in key areas of the city.DCP (West Zone) Vishwajeet Srivastava ordered the immediate line attachment of the in-charges of the Satkhanda, Rumi Gate and Hussainabad police outposts. Similar action was taken against the outpost in-charge of the River Bank Colony and Old High Court area. Departmental proceedings were ordered against both officers, who are of sub-inspector rank.

“The failure to remove illegal roadside encroachments allegedly resulted in prolonged and intense traffic snarls, particularly in Old Lucknow areas, causing major inconvenience to commuters and tourists during the New Year rush,” said the DCP (West). In addition, a detailed report recommending action against the Chowk traffic inspector was sent to the Lucknow Traffic Police. TNN
