UP BJP chief to step up review of organisation in key regions | Lucknow News
Lucknow: After initiating the organisational review from west UP and Braj, newly appointed UP BJP chief Pankaj Chaudhary is scheduled to assess party functioning in the remaining four regions – Gorakhpur, Kashi, Awadh and Bundelkhand – in the next few days. The move is seen as a prelude to the much-anticipated organisational overhaul before the saffron outfit steps up the political spadework in the run-up to this year’s panchayat elections and subsequently the high-stakes state assembly elections in 2027.
Chaudhary is scheduled to visit the Gorakhpur region, which also houses his home turf of Maharajganj, on January 5. Sources said that the meeting is proposed to be attended by 10 district presidents from the region. Considered the political backyard of CM Yogi Adityanath, the Gorakhpur region comprises 62 assembly and 12 Lok Sabha seats. BJP sources said that Chaudhary is expected to assess the organisational template at the district, mandal and booth levels. Experts said that the Gorakhpur region remains central to the BJP’s Hindutva core and organisational discipline. Any feedback emerging from this region will be closely noted as a key indicator of the working relationship between the party organisation and the govt headed by Adityanath. The emphasis on assessing district, mandal and booth-level structures signals Chaudhary’s intention of resorting to tried-and-tested micro-level management and the trademark cadre-driven mobilisation of people. Sources said that the presence of district presidents in these meetings indicates that accountability will begin from the top of the district hierarchy, possibly leading to performance-linked reshuffles in due course. The state president is next scheduled to reach the Kashi region, comprising Varanasi, the parliamentary seat of PM Narendra Modi, on Jan 8. This region is home to 16 organisational districts, 71 assembly seats and 14 Lok Sabha constituencies. Chaudhary’s visit to Kashi carries symbolic and strategic weight. Being the home turf of Modi, the region is not only the prestige zone but, of late, also attained the status of being the BJP’s political laboratory. BJP sources said that the region shaped the BJP’s narrative of development combined with cultural nationalism. Chaudhary’s next stopover is scheduled to be Lucknow on Jan 10 or 11.
