BHADOHI: A 50-year-old man died after allegedly suffering an epileptic seizure and falling into a bonfire he had lit to keep himself warm, police said on Sunday. The incident took place on Saturday night in Bhakora village under the Chauri police station area. Station House Officer (SHO) Ram Sarikh Gautam said the deceased, identified as Basawan alias Kallu (50), who had a history of epilepsy, was sitting outside his house near the bonfire around 8 pm when he suddenly suffered a seizure and fell into the flames, according to news agency PTI. At the time, his wife, Jaydei, was inside the house, the SHO said. About half an hour later, villagers noticed the smell of burning flesh and rushed to the spot. They found Basawan lying face down in the bonfire, with nearly half of his body badly burnt. He had already died by then, Gautam said. Police said the body was examined after they received information about the incident and was later handed over to the family. Basawan’s last rites were performed on Saturday night.
