Cops announce Rs 25k reward for info on absconding KGMU doc in sex row | Lucknow News
Lucknow: The Lucknow Police on Friday announced a cash reward of Rs 25,000 for any information leading to the arrest of a junior resident doctor of King George’s Medical University (KGMU) accused of sexual exploitation, blackmail and attempting to coerce a colleague into converting her religion.Police intensified raids across multiple locations after the accused went missing despite repeated notices and clear instructions not to leave the city.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Vishwajeet Srivastava, approved the reward after investigators failed to trace the accused doctor, whose mobile phone was switched off for the past several days. A non-bailable warrant (NBW) was already issued against him by the court, police said. The case was registered at Chowk police station under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges related to sexual relations obtained by deceit, criminal intimidation, mental harassment, and sections of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021. “He was clearly instructed not to leave Lucknow, but he went underground. Raids are being conducted continuously to arrest him,” said ACP Chowk Raj Kumar Singh. Investigators also questioned the accused’s wife and are verifying allegations that she was coerced into religious conversion before marriage. Police are examining his academic and personal background, including his time as an MBBS student at Agra Medical College and claims of multiple marriages. One woman, whom he allegedly married in Feb, is also being contacted to ascertain whether her conversion was voluntary. KGMU authorities suspended the doctor and barred his entry into the campus except for inquiry-related proceedings. The university’s Internal Committee for Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace also failed to contact him. The survivor, a nursing aspirant, alleged that the doctor befriended her in July 2025 on the promise of marriage, established physical relations, and later forced her to terminate a pregnancy. She further claimed he threatened to leak obscene videos and demanded religious conversion as a condition for marriage. The alleged harassment pushed her to attempt suicide on Dec 17, though she was saved by timely intervention. The Chief Minister’s Office took cognisance of the case and directed swift and strict action. Police said further legal steps would follow once the accused is arrested.
