‘Give jobs to those who died during SIR duty’

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai on Wednesday alleged a breakdown of law and order in the state and demanded govt jobs and compensation for the families of govt employees who died while on duty during Special Intensive Revision (SIR) work.Addressing party workers and the media in Ambedkarnagar, Rai said nearly two dozen govt personnel lost their lives during SIR-related duties across the state. Referring to the death of assistant BLO and teacher Sushila Verma, he said her untimely death raised serious questions about administrative accountability. “The govt must provide a job and adequate compensation to the dependents of all deceased employees,” he said.

Rai alleged that “jungle raj” prevailed in the state and cited multiple incidents from Ambedkarnagar district. He referred to the demolition of a house belonging to Virendra Pratap Singh in Ariya village, allegedly carried out by local strongmen using a bulldozer in the presence of police. He also flagged the case of Himanshu Vishwakarma, who was missing for the past 2 months, saying it was unfortunate that his family was forced to stage protests for months seeking action.During his visit, Rai met the family members of the missing youth who were protesting near the Ambedkar statue in Akbarpur, visited the site of the alleged illegal demolition in Ariya, and later went to Rasoolpur in Tanda to offer condolences to the family of the deceased teacher. He met Sushila Verma’s husband, Gangaram Verma, and son Kamta Prasad Verma, assuring them of the party’s support.
