Lucknow: Sports Hostel Lucknow edged past Sports Hostel Jhansi 2-1 in a penalty shootout to win the Junior Men’s State Hockey Tournament at the Padma Shri Mohd Shahid Hockey Stadium on Wednesday. The final ended 2-2 in regulation time before Lucknow prevailed in the shootout.Sports Hostel Lucknow took an early 2-0 lead, with Abhijeet scoring a field goal in the ninth minute, followed by Atif converting a penalty corner in the 12th minute. Jhansi reduced the margin when skipper Praduman Yadav struck from a penalty corner in the penultimate minute of the first quarter to make it 2-1. Jhansi forced the match into a shootout after Akshat Verma converted a penalty corner in the 55th minute to level the score at 2-2 at full time. In the decisive shootout, Lucknow’s Raghvendra and Abhijeet found the target, while goalkeeper Lalit made crucial saves to secure the title. For Sports Hostel Jhansi, only Ankit Patel managed to score in the shootout. Football: Lucknow Youth and Mid Winter won their respective matches in the 8th Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Memorial Football Tournament at the Dilkusha ground on Wednesday. Lucknow Youth defeated Tectro B 5-4 in a penalty shootout, while Mid Winter beat LDA Football Club 2-1.
