ECI nod for reorganisation of polling stations across UP

Lucknow: The Election Commission of India has approved the proposal to reorganise polling stations across all 75 districts of UP. The proposal was prepared on the basis of 1,200 voters per polling station across 403 assembly constituencies.Chief electoral officer (CEO), Navdeep Rinwa said the process of reorganising polling stations began on Oct 29. District election officers from all 75 districts submitted their proposals, which were forwarded to the ECI on Nov 24 for final approval.Rinwa said that UP earlier had 1,62,486 polling stations. After the reorganisation, the number has increased to 1,77,516 — an addition of 15,030 new polling stations. Last year, in 2024, the reorganisation was carried out based on 1,500 voters per polling station, but this year the cap has been revised to 1,200 to ensure smoother voting and better accessibility. To manage the additional polling stations, the state will deploy extra booth level officers. These officers will handle voter-related tasks and help ensure efficient polling arrangements. The draft publication of the electoral rolls, prepared under the special summary revision with Jan 1, 2026 as the qualifying date, will be released at all newly created polling stations on Jan 6.
