10L old age pensioners added in UP in 8 years | Lucknow News
Lucknow: Over the past eight years, the social welfare department has added 9.83 lakh beneficiaries in Uttar Pradesh under the national old age pension scheme. The total number of recipients under the scheme has reached 67.5 lakh.Minister of state (independent charge) for social welfare Asim Arun said that through digital monitoring systems, Aadhaar-based verification and continuous oversight mechanisms, the department has weeded out ineligible beneficiaries and added those who were deserving.
“In 2024, around 61 lakh senior citizens were covered under the national old age pension scheme, a figure that increased to 67.5 lakh in 2025. The growth in beneficiary numbers reflects the state govt’s sustained commitment to strengthening social security for the elderly through direct financial support,” the minister said.The social welfare department has deleted names of 1.77 lakh deceased and ineligible beneficiaries from the pension rolls in 2024, followed by the removal of 3.32 lakh similar in 2025.Deputy director, social welfare, Amarjeet Singh stated that the department’s priority is to ensure that no eligible senior citizen is deprived of pension benefits. Accordingly, 9.83 lakh eligible elderly persons were added to the scheme in 2025, compared to 7.08 lakh in 2024.The Scheme has been further simplified through the integration of the Family ID system where through automatic identification and verification, eligible citizens will receive pension payments directly into their bank accounts.
