Complete breakdown of law & order in UP: Akhilesh | Lucknow News
Yadav alleged that the police became “unrestrained” under the present dispensation, while corruption was at its peak. Criminals and anti-social elements, he claimed, were operating fearlessly and carrying out offences openly. “The police and administration function under pressure from BJP leaders. As a result, justice is denied to common citizens,” he said, adding that crimes did not spare even the chief minister’s home district Gorakhpur.Citing recent incidents, the former UP CM referred to an alleged case in Rampur where a student was molested and an attempt was made to rape her inside a car, and repeated incidents of harassment reported from Basti. He said these cases were merely illustrative and reflected a much larger pattern of violence against women across the state. “There is no effective control over crimes against women. Uttar Pradesh today ranks number one in such offences,” he alleged.Akhilesh Yadav also accused the BJP govt of weakening institutional mechanisms meant to protect women. He recalled that during the SP regime, the women’s helpline 1090 was launched to ensure immediate police assistance to women and girls with just a phone call. “That effective service has been ruined under the BJP govt,” he claimed.Extending his criticism beyond women’s safety, the SP chief alleged that all forms of crime and illegal trade increased sharply under the current regime. “From top to bottom, the narcotics trade has spread. It appears that the slogan of zero tolerance against crime itself is intoxicated and lying somewhere unused,” he remarked. According to him, criminal and mafia networks were running “poisonous” illegal businesses with political patronage, while the police and administration remained mute spectators. He further alleged that neither women, nor youth, nor traders were safe in UP today. Accusing the BJP govt of “ruining” the state, Akhilesh asserted that public anger was steadily growing. “The people of UP will remove the BJP govt in 2027 and free the state from crime and drugs,” he said, expressing confidence that voters would seek a change to restore law, order, and social security.
