Step up monitoring of checks on sanitation, officials told

Lucknow: During inspection of several zones and wards to assess waste management and cleanliness, municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar on Sunday directed officials to step up monitoring of sanitation work across the city.Reviewing door-to-door garbage collection, back lane cleaning, drain desilting, wall murals and ongoing beautification work, Kumar interacted with residents to gauge regularity and effectiveness of waste collection services.He asked officials to attend to pockets where door-to-door collection remained irregular and told them to increase collection frequency where required. Warning that dumping garbage in open spaces would not be tolerated, Kumar ordered removal of RC bins from residential areas, stressing that waste should be handed over only to municipal vehicles.In Zone-5, the commissioner inspected Patelnagar, Adarshnagar, Samar Vihar and Chitraguptanagar, directing staff to ensure regular cleaning and expedite beautification work. Inspections in Zone-2 covered Sanjaynagar Market, Labour Colony ward and D-Block of Rajajipuram ward, with focus on drain cleaning and waste collection. In Zone-1, he reviewed cleanliness in Bank of India Colony, Butler Colony and Purana Qila area under Babu Banarasi Das ward.Kumar said maintaining Lucknow’s cleanliness, beauty and liveability were municipal corporation’s top priority and appealed to residents to cooperate by handing over waste to municipal vehicles on times and support efforts to keep neighbourhoods clean.
